Reliable Manual Initiation for Fire Alarm Systems

The Manual Fire Alarm Call Point, commonly known as a "break glass" unit, is a fundamental device that allows building occupants to manually raise the alarm in the event of a fire. Its simple, fail-safe operation ensures that the fire alarm system can be activated immediately, even if automatic detectors have not yet sensed the fire, triggering audible and visual alarms throughout the premises to initiate evacuation.

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Simple, Fail-Safe Operation: In an emergency, the clear plastic front is broken by pressing (or using the provided hammer), which activates a microswitch and sends an alarm signal to the control panel.
  • Highly Visible Design: Standard bright red color with white "FIRE" lettering makes it easily identifiable in an emergency, even in low light or smoky conditions.
  • Durable Construction: Housing is made from high-impact ABS plastic or polycarbonate to withstand accidental knocks and harsh environmental conditions.
  • Tamper Evidence & Security: The broken element provides clear visual evidence of use. Many models include a protective cover to prevent accidental or malicious activation.
  • Easy Reset & Maintenance: After activation, the unit can be easily reset by authorized personnel using a special key—simply replace the breakable element and close the cover.
  • Wide Compatibility: Compatible with conventional 2-wire and 4-wire fire alarm systems (voltages: 12V/24V DC).

Installation Guidelines (Per Code):

Call points must be installed:

  • On every storey, at points of entry to stairways and exit routes.
  • No more than 30 meters travel distance from any point within the building to the nearest call point.
  • At a consistent height of approximately 1.4 meters from the floor level for easy accessibility.
  • In clear, unobstructed locations, not hidden behind doors or furniture.
